Family Dispute Resolution

Kate Walker,

Accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner

Family law disputes can often be very stressful and expensive to resolve. In this context, it makes good sense to resolve such matters as promptly as possible.

Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) or Family Mediation is a way to reach agreement in relation to parenting or property matters without having to go to court.

The mediator plays an impartial role and simply facilitates a discussion, focused on agreement on the specific issues that are in dispute.

FDR can assist parties reach agreement sometimes in a matter of hours and it allows you and your former partner to have control of the outcomes that you're both seeking. Once courts are involved, you delegate the decision-making power to someone who knows very little about the full circumstances of your matter.

The other important consideration is that FDR is a far more efficient way to resolve property and parenting matters. The average time it takes to litigate family law disputes is over 2 years and obviously is a significantly more expensive option.

At Strive Family Law & Mediations, Kate Walker is an Accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.
